February has come and I’m crocheting hearts. Valentines Day is just around the corner – and i think it’s a perfect month to have a celebration day like this, when everything is dark, cold and grey. Do you celebrate Valentines Day? I myself like the idea of an entire day celebrating love, just not as commercially. It doesn’t have to cost a dime, but it can be a day where we remember each other, being present and for an instance remember to be boyfriend and girlfriend in love in an everyday life full of children, daily rutines and dirty laundry. Love is more than just flowers and chocolate and Hallmark cards – like crocheted hearts!! You can make your own cute hearty coasters – in two sizes for both teapot an teacup! (My teapot needs a cozy to keep my tea warm, cold tea is so boring!!) A whole set with hearts? Definitely!
YOU WILL NEED
A 3,5 mm crochet hookCotton yarn (Like Mayflower Cotton8 or DROPS Safran) in colors white, red and pink (or whatever color you like the hearts to be)
A needle for fastening ends.
All rounds begin with a ch 3 (counts as first dc). All rounds are finished with a sl st to the 3. ch. To get a firm coaster, two strands of yarn is used in this pattern.
Big coaster
- 13 dc in a magic ring.
- 2 dc in each st, 1 dc in the last st (25).
- 2 dc, 2 dc in the next st. Change color (colors are changed on the last pull through on the previous dc, to get a clean colorchange), 3 dc in next st. Change colour on last pull through of the 3. dc. Be careful to crochet around the color not used on the back of the coaster, to avoid any loose strands. *1 dc, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc, 2 dc in next st. Change color. 3 dc in next st, change color*. Rep * 3x. 2 dc (45).
- 2 dc, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc. Change color. [1 dc in sp BETWEEN dc’s TOG with dc in first coloured dc of prev round]. Ch 1, sl st (in middle dc), ch 1. [1 dc in next st TOG with dc in sp between colors]. Change color. *2 dc, 2 dc in next st, 2 dc. Change color. [1 dc in sp between dc’s TOG with dc in first coloured dc of prev round]. Change color*. Rep * 3x. 2 dc.
- (Instead of ch 3, make a ch 1) Sc in every white st. At the heart put ch 1, 2 hdc in the sl st in the middle, ch 1. Repeat around.
- For a slightly raised and even edging, put sl st in each st (including chains).
Small Coaster
- 13 sc in a mr
- 2 sc in each st, 1 sc in the last st (25)
- 3 dc, change color (colors are changed on the last pull through on the previous dc, to get a clean colorchange), 3 dc in next st. Change color. Be careful to crochet around the color not used on the back of the coaster, to avoid any loose strands. *4 dc, change color, 3 dc in next st, change color*. Rep 3x. 1 dc (35)
- 2 dc in same st, 1 dc. Change color. [1 dc BETWEEN dc’s TOG with dc in first coloured dc]. Ch 1, sl.st (in middle dc), ch 1. [1 dc in next st TOG with dc in sp between colors]. Change color. *1 dc, 2 dc in next st, 2 dc. Change color. [1 dc BETWEEN dc’s TOG with dc in first coloured dc]. Ch 1, sl.st (in middle dc), ch 1. [1 dc in next st TOG with dc in sp between colors].
