Easter is soon here and as I was going through my stash I found some bright and cheerful pastels, perfect for these Easy Easterbunnies. Use them for a sweet Easter Card, place cards for your Easter dinner or simply scatter them all over the table as sweet decorations! If you have time for more Easterly crochets, try this tiny basket full of flowers or maybe make some pretty stone easter eggs. Anyway, here is the English pattern for the cute little bunny motifs – Happy Hooking!
Hilde from HildeHaakt made a bunch of my bunnies in lovely shades of blue – and she has been so kind and translated the pattern into Dutch. You can find it on her blog.
YOU WILL NEED
Mayflower Cotton 8 in colours (1447), (1448), (1452) og (1497)
A 3 mm hook
A needle for fastening ends
HOW ITS MADE (US)
As opposed to many of my patterns, this pattern states how to start each round. This method is nearly invisible and the normally jagged stitch at the beginning/end of a round is avoided. I only do a ch2 to equal a dc, as I find a ch3 creates too big a gap between the first stitches, thus being visible in the finished work. For more detail on how to do the stitches, see the photo tutorial in the end.
- In a magic ring do a ch2, 11 dc. Close the round with a sl st in the blp of the 2nd chain st (12)
- Ch2. In next st put 2 dc, be careful to put them in the right stitch! *2 dc in each st* 10x total, 1 dc in both loops of the 2nd ch st from the previous round (24)
- Ch 2, 2 dc in the same st. Now make an ear like so: Ch 6. Sc in 2nd ch st from hook. Crochet a sc in each of the 4 remaining ch st. Insert hook horizontally under the two loops in the top of the dc and pull up a loop. With two loops on your hook, crochet a dc into the next st, after YO 2 times you will have three loops left on your hook, YO and pull through all three loops. 1 dc in same st. 1 dc in next st, make another ear, ending the ear with a special dc in same st: Ch 6. 1 dc in next st, ch1, sl st into the same st. Cut yarn and fasten both ends.
- In a new colour, ch 36. Cut yarn, make sure to leave enough to sew onto the bunny. Sew through every 4th stitch of the chain and pull tightly, while forming the loops to a bushy tail. If needed, sew through the bottom of the tail one more time before placing it directly on top of the magic ring and sewing it onto the bunny. Fasten both ends on the backside, snip the ends off and your bunny is done!
- In a magic ring, ch2, 11 dc
- Close round with a sl st in back loop of the 2nd chain as shown
- Ch2 and dc into the next stitch
- Put one more dc into the same stitch. Continue with 2 dc into each stitch
- The last dc is crocheted through both loops of the 2nd ch from the beginning of the previous round
- Close round with a sl st into the 2nd ch
- Ch2, 2 dc into the next stitch shown above
- To make an ear, ch 6
- Single crochet into the 2nd ch from hook
- 4 sc, one in each of the remaining ch4
- Insert hook under the two loops in the top of the dc
- Draw up a loop
- With two loops on hook, YO and crochet a dc in next stitch
- The last YO is pulled through the remaining three loops on hook
- The finished stitch should look like this
- Crochet one more dc into the same st, 1 dc in next st
- Make another ear exactly as the first one
- The special dc is crocheted into the same stitch as the previous dc
- Put 1 dc in the next st, ch1 and finish with a sl st into the same st
- Cut yarn and pull the tail all the way through
- Thread your needle with the yarn tail and sew into the stitch shown above
- Now sew through the back loop of the sl st as shown and fasten all ends
- The bunny is finished. Now for the tail!
- Make a chain of 36 stitches and cut yarn leaving a good tail
- Thread your needle and sew through every 4th stitch of the chain
- Pull tightly while forming a bushy tail
- Place the tail directly onto the magic ring and sew the tail onto the bunny
